Dick gave him a sympathetic look. “It must suck when you can’t enjoy yourself up there.” He glanced down at the man’s shoes, grinning in amusement. “I still think that’s cheating,” he joked.
He nodded at the offer of getting a beer. Of course, he was patrolling later tonight, so he’d probably just end up ordering a coke or something. “Sounds good to me.”
He began to make his way out of the circus tent. His lips pursed thoughtfully at James’ question. He didn’t do much drinking, so he tended to judge the quality of bars by how many thugs and scumbags hung out there. He shrugged. “I don’t know, I don’t do much drinking, but I hear there’s a good one just down the street.” He’d been meaning to scout it out anyway, see exactly who hung out there. Also, if there were some baddies there, he could hopefully eavesdrop on a couple drunken conversations.

"Oh, I'm never not enjoying myself. Believe me." He gave Dick a wink and headed outside. The breeze was cool and welcome after a performance like that. The whole city seemed cold, though. Always. Maybe it was a side effect of housing a villain like Mr. Freeze. Or maybe it was a warning sign, telling people to get the hell out while they could. Still, James preferred the cooler clims these days. It meant he was far away from the flames.
The bar wasn't anything extravagant or eye-catching, which was find for most people, but James always liked to drink in crowds. You could get away with shooting your mouth off, and just continue to impress and con without anyone paying any mind.
Inside, it wasn't very busy. Either people were down at the circus tonight, or it was just a really slow evening. When they got up to the bar, he noticed two things. They had his favorite beer on tap and the bartender had very deft hands. They were being served by a con-woman.
Well. No heavy drinking tonight. But he was up for a challenge. He ordered a glass for himself and sat down. He'd pull a tab, because he certainly didn't want his wallet in her view for too long. Not that he intended to pay anyway.
He grinned at his friend for the evening and motioned to the seat next to him. "Don't worry, I don't bite." About that time a set of chattering teeth fell out of his jacket. His grin deepened. "Well, not always." The bartender eyed him while he put the teeth back. Don't even try it, sugar. You're way out of your league.

He grinned at James. It was nice talking to someone who knew that life didn’t always have to be serious. There was a time and place for everything, including laughter.
The cool breeze rustled his hair, but he didn’t put on the coat he had brought. The breeze felt nice and was helping his body to cool down after the performance.
He followed James into the bar, his eyes instantly assessing the situation. The bar wasn’t full and those who were there didn’t scream “crook.” He allowed himself to relax enough to actually enjoy himself.
He glanced casually at the bartender, recognizing her face from some criminal report a year or two back. She was a con. Dick glanced at James. Judging by the look the man had given her, his fellow acrobat knew it too.
He barely managed to contain a howl of laughter when the chattering teeth fell out of James’ jacket. “That was perfect, man.” His body shook with the contained laughter. He took a breath to calm himself down and turned to the bartender. He took out his wallet, keeping it on his lap and at a safe distance from anyone who would try to nab it.
“Drinks are on me,” he said, glancing at James with a grin and taking out some cash, before turning back to the bartender, “I’ll take a Coke, or Pepsi, whatever you have.” He looked to James, signaling for him to place his order.
